I\u2019ve attended Social Media Week in New York in the past, and this year I\u2019ll be attending digitally (much easier and cheaper, but maybe not as engaging? We\u2019ll see). I\u2019ve also attended the ANA Multicultural Marketing & Diversity Conference virtually and found some value in that (but it\u2019s also a lot of brands bragging about themselves and not as much helpful content as I\u2019d like).<\/p>

I like the idea of industry-specific conferences too but wonder if that would be too niche.\u00a0One thing I struggle with at conferences in general is that most content seems to be geared towards businesses that are B2C and have a physical product to sell, whereas my organization provides services (leadership development training). We have found Mastodon to be the best alternative to Twitter for our client\u2019s industry (Healthcare\/Medical). However, the user base (on the Med-Mastodon server, at least) is nowhere near where it needs to be to generate any traction and compete with Twitter.<\/p>

I\u2019ve experimented with several sites billed as alternatives (Hive Social, Post, etc.) and personally think Mastodon is far and away the best.
